Right I thought I would make a post as I have had a few U2U's about this since I mentioned it.
I bought a Xbox Crystal from my local GAME for £19.99 and a copy of the original Splinter Cell for 98p (you need this game beacuse of an exploit in it)
I then took this round to my friends house who hacks and mods everything 
Within a couple hours he had soft modded it so it now runs XBMC (http://xbmc.org/)
XBox FTW
You can search for all shared media on the network, I chose my computer and here is the listing of the folders I have shared.....
You can then drop down into the TV folder for example and see the listings of all the folders in there aswell...
Can then go through and play the episodes in those folders on their own or in playlists. Really is SO flexible its unreal!

I have a 360 here aswell but I did this beacuse it means I can have more media functionality in the house for cheap as £20 is far cheaper than getting another 360. Not to mention the noise!

xbmc thats it , thats what my old man uses for his media stuff. I'm house sitting this week for him and hes just been given a hdd with 100 films on it over the past few months, going to catch up on alot of vegging out watching films i think!

P.S - what you mean about splinter cell game? Never heard of that before?

Just been reading up on it. Need to go and buy a few bits to do it, but it's a fair bit cheaper than the media centre extender I was going to save up for

Also, once you mod it to use the XBMC, is it still a normal xbox after that? i.e still play all your normal games?

One of those things to load stuff onto a memory card via USB so I can softmod it or a modchip as it needs to be nodded to install it...

Yeah you can still play normal games, just cant go on 'live'.
But that really isnt a big deal, the 360 is good for playing online, I cant image the old Xbox is anygood

You need to use an exploit in the saving process to gain access in order to install the softmod

No idea, but they have valued the development of the software at 42.1 million 
Its so much better than any attempt at media software I have seen before

I have this but i dont use it, thinking of getting rid soon. I havent played the old xbox for about a year, i even upgraded the HDD to 250GB and put a bunch of movies and games on it. getting a 360 soon so will flog mine if anyones intrested.
