Dunno, i was gonna get a set of 19s for my car, and i told a mate that is a mechanic, a good one at that, and he said that it would be faster top end!!
Did you go out in the end last night?
If so how was it?

thats right, little tiny wheels are faster for accelleration but have a shite top speed. whereas large wheels have shite accelleration and a much faster top speed

I think they think that cos the driveshaft will be going the same speed at a certain amount of revs, then a bigger wheel will cover more distance with each rotation...
...only problem is the top speed is normally limited by the power of the engine vs the drag at that speed and not by the rev limiter....

Personally I think it's wrong... mainly because yes, your car travels further for each revolution, but the engine has to work harder to turn a bigger wheel (moments) so it all cancels out...
Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't see the 19" corsa's doing 130 or something...

also - half the people with huge alloys - will be going by speedo reading - giving them a greater top speed

the actual true difference in speed is going to be such a small % that its really not worth worrying about, especially on the vectra your not really going to notice a huge difference to be honest
