I use Halfords plastic primer, Vauxhall metalic body paint - which comes with lacquer.
Body paint is hard wearing and gives a good finish.

yeah folitec is poo and so expensive. use wot the guy said above much better. I think i ended up using about 4 cans of vaux stuff

I've used loads. they cost about £5 for a can of paint and lacquer. Depends how much your spraying too. For some reason i have about 3 cans off lacquer left, but no paint!
Use the primer to sand - spray - sand your way up to a nice smooth finish ready for spraying with colour.

make sure u sand down the surface first to make them smooth before priming it
