Decent camera doesnt necesarily mean SLR, just opens new doors. You will need to bare in mind the cost of a memory card which wont be included and a case if you want one - I say that to all my customers lol!
I would recommend one from the Lumix FZ range, think 18 is the latest. They have a decent optical zoom, and all the freedom of an SLR bar the ability to swap lenses but its pretty diverse anyway.

That'd be my choice, or similar aged Nikon if I wanted the most flexibility
with the intro of the 450D I'd be on the hunt for a cheap 400D if I didnt have a body already.
Maybe, but the new Canons not been out long so can't see a 400D dropping down to £150 - not checked ebay myself though so might be wrong.

Quick example mate..
300mm =
150mm=
75mm=
28mm =
The lower the number the wider the angle. Lowest is usually 10mm. Higher the further you can zoom in.

And yes, if it says 70-300mm, that is the range. If it's just a 50mm, then you cannot zoom

Dont buy a camera that takes AA's, you will be disapointed in the long run and end up spending soo much. Lithium is the way forward. Jessops will try and make you buy extras as thats where we make the most profit. Dont let the salesman force you into anything because thats where we make out commision! Just a bit of a heads up lol.
