I replaced my head gasket and everything and got my car running on Tuesday, but in normal driving the temp gauge goes up to 95c and then if I go round a left hand bend it goes upto 98c and stays there. I had my car on idle today and the temp went to 105c, but the coolant wasn't boiling, not even a sign of boiling, my engine wasn't that hot, and my fan wasn't on, and the thermostat wasn't open either( it has a new one in, that is checked and tested), I can only think the sensor is bust or the gauge itself. Can anyone answer this?

There are two separate temp sensors, one for the ECU and one for the instrument

Great answer that..........

Usually they go up when they are earthed. Check the wiring isn't chaffed and rubbing the car body. Other than that replace the sensor.

Mine does this on the Calibra.

The temp gauge wasnt working properly......Sits right at the bottom and when in traffic the needle moved up a mm or so.

I replaced it with a new temperature sender and now it goes right up to 105 when warm and sits there. Same as yours no fan on etc.

Could be the calibration on the temperature sender?
