I am doing some research into mobile phone tracking as a need for it has come up.
Are there any services that offer a level of anonymity? By that I mean the phone dosn't have to 'agree to be tracked' by the user confirming by a text message etc. I understand that it may not fall within industry guidelines.
TBH I dont even need to know exactly where they are, just if they are in the country or not at the time. Obviously the more exact details I can get the better.
If anyone has any information then please give me a shout on U2U if its more appropriate

Nope, all phones connected to a network can be triangulated and tracked... they aren't, but they can be. And if you ask for this to not happen then your contratc will be cancelled as they cant offer you any service

I understand how the phones get tracked etc.
Im just after a service that will track a phone based on a phone number by simply sending it a blank text message or something. All the companys I have found so far are very friendly ones that keep updating the tracked phone with texts when ever it gets tracked etc

the last triangulation we did resulting in finding the sim card from 4 different cell sites, resulting in a tracked area of about 2 miles.
u can send a text and have the message switching centre ping the delivery back and track it to within 2 cell sites, however to do this you have to have the permission of the phone user. if u asked us to track somebody, you are instantly sent to pending fraud an risk department.

2 miles would be accurate enough. Can that be done without the phone owners knowledge?
Either through a website or a company like o2

If you want to know if they're in the UK just call it. Foreign ring tone is different.
