Hi,
Think i may have either been given a virus or someone has hacked into my PC. Opened an e-mail i shouldn't have, windows background went blue and a sign appeared saying spyware or virus deteced.
I have since installed norton and turned on my firewall. I'm worried they may be looking at my docs etc and they gonna hack all my accounts.
What's the best advice people can give to fix this?

The two approaches are try and fix it which is loads of messing and could take days or do a complete reinstall which is quicker, easier and generally a more reliable way to rid yourself of such things.

I had a virus I couldn't get rid of. Copied all my files I wanted and re-installed it.
Inserted discs with files, ran a virus check on them (just in casE) and then put them back.
Best approach.

Sounds like the Antivirus 2008 virus going around. There is a UPS one that is a right bugger to get shut of too. No AV has a solution for it yet. We had it take down a company with 11 computers in total. Took me 2 days, lots of hair pulling and swearing to solve Ended up doing sever registry hacks and file deleting.
Malware Blaster will kill the AV 2008 virus. Download off my site http://www.bitsofkit.co.uk/mbam-setup.exe
Install and run any updates. Reboot in Safe Mode and run a quck scan. You can go in and edit the regisitry to remove the bitmap image which is what i tried initially. The little bastard has a little program running that just goes back and changes all the wallpaper settings.
There is also a virus floating around stealing tracking cookies and then adding an auto responder to your msn list. Stay off these dirty web sites peeps. Investigation for next week i thinks.
