The nearside CV joint on my wife's 14XE CDX has started banging when reversing on full lock so I think its time it was changed.
Is this an easy DIY job for a handy chap liek me (equipped with haynes manual)?
I did the cambelt earlier in the year so I'm not scared of messing things up  But am a little concerned that I may be confronted with rusty bolts etc. that I cant shift on a 10 yr old 100k mile car.
Whats the basic running order for doing the job?
I thought I may as well do the ball joints at the sam etime as these seem to be on brackets so you dont have to split them to remove and replace - I assume this is as easy as it seems?

worst problem is freeing the clip holding cv joint on once you pop that off it just slides out. but it gets very messy from the grease.
ball joint is very easy you will need ball joint tool, crow bar type

Are you talking about the lower balljoint or a track rod end? lower balljoint you will be ok but if your changing a track rod end you might as well have a garage do it because as Phil says you will have to get the tracking set afterwards anyway

Will I?
I thought they were on a bracket at the bottom and secured with a bolt at the top? (therefore they dont need splitting)??

They are as you said, but that doesn't mean it's gonna come out of the hub easy.

Just take the bolts out for the lower ball joint and hammer it out of the hub, bit rough but it works

I've done both of these jobs today and thought I'd post back in case anyone finds this thread in the future when thinking of doing the same.
The job took around 2 hours, and was not difficult at all. As stated above, it is a bit messy thanks to the grease inside the rubber boot.
The clip can be easily removed using a pair of external circlip pliers.
