moved out at 19, got a mortgage. At the time our joint income was about £21k per year.....now it's about £31k but the wife only works 2 days a week now

Effectively means my rise in wages over 4 years of about £14k is damaged by the missus cutting down her days!

i have two houses on a buy to let mortgage, when i move out in two years, when im 21 i will sell up/ or sell to my mum and use the cash from these to buy my own place and sell some shares for a deposit. If you dont want to move out but worried about getting a foot on buy to let mortgages are good way to get on, i put two 15% depositis down and the renters pay the mortgage plus 45 quid extra a month to me

I was 19 but in 2001 the prices were very different to what they have been lately. It was only a little 2bedroomed semi, but with half an acre of land, when I buy a place I go mainly for landspace rather than the building itself.
I got lucky, business just took off, had a bit of inheritance from a deceased grandparent and I've always been good at saving up before-hand.

i pissed A LOT of money away before eventually buying...

rented for about 4 years as i was too stupid to save for a deposit.

Bought 2bed flat in edinburgh about 2 1/2 years ago... 10k deposit or so...

Moved to aberdeen last summer, kept edinburgh place and but down a 30k or so deposit for Aberdeen... age 28 (just)

bought into a 2 bed ex council flat in aberdeen earlier this year... Bit of a no brainer as it was a council sale at about 1/3rd of market value

You could make a return on it short term then if you got it at a pinch.

I still own the home mentioned above, rented it out to my sister at first but she bought her own place within a year, but I bought my dream house nearly 4 years ago, and even extended onto it another 1500 sq ft. I can get lost from the other half when she's nagging.
