My mate has a 1l 'R' reg Corsa. His steering rack went and he got his 'mechanic mate' (how he described him) to fit what he said was a non-PAS rack. Now in my understnding, when the engine is running and you can turn the steering wheel with one finger without the wheels moving you have PAS (maybe im wrong).

However i cant for the life of me find a tank to top up steering fluid with, so if anyone has a pic of where it is in the engine bay may be helpful (if it exists at all )

Anyway the actual problem - when he turns the wheel right he gets half lock and it gets stiff then knocks into place and carries on, its quite dangerous for parking and cornering. Anyone know what it could be? Could it be related to the above ^ i.e. having no PAS fluid?

arnt the 1.0 12v electrical power steering?

not sure, but that what ive been told as i cant find fluid bottle anywhere..

if im wrong please tell me, plus where abouts the fluid bottle is....

they have either NO PAS or have EPS


asking does he was a warning light on the dash that says EPS when he turn's the ignition to pos1

Yes he does, so he has electronic power steering, thats that query sorted (i did wonder what EPS means)

What about the knock while turning right? I thought it might be catching on a cable or summat (note i am not mechanically minded so dont know if the above is possible)

knock could be a few thing's really..

ball joints, barrings track rod's etc etc check for play in the wheels

Ill get him to just take it to a garage, hes looking at changing anyway, hes 30 this year and still driving a 1l

Hes also driving round with the EML on for his EGR for the last 2 months, so he might not be that bothered...
