May be a stupid question BUT are steel head-gaskets for the C20XE re-useable.

The engine hasnt been ran or anything (not even in the car) just been torqued up (using ARP's) and now needs to come off again.

Can i re-use the head gasket or will i need a new one? D

no its reuseable, if it aint been used and just torqued down, no need for a new one.

I was thinking that, once its been squashed down, torquing it down again to the same amount might cause it to leak?

Is it Cometic?
They are re-usable, I'm 87% sure.

Plasticised cardboard standard ones are one use only whether the engine has been run or not.

i had a layered metal HG on the skyline (about £160)...

Head was off for work after about 1500miles....

replaced it.

For the cost, its better to just replace

they are re-usable as long as the lip around the edge isnt crushed. I have re-used mine about 5 times.

I have also re-used these on other engines 3-4 times with no problems whatsoever, whats the worst that can happen? it has a slight leak and then you get a new one.

Well if its a head gasket i'd replace it otherwise the chance of it leaking is obviously higher. I have bought new gaskets for my inlet manifold cos i know my luck will make the bloody have an air leak lol

funny enough, but when my engine gone, and i bought another(which turned out to have bad head gasket) i re-used the gasket from the old engine, had to take off the head few times after that too, always using same gasket. bever leaked(well for 2k miles i done in the car before selling it anyway)
