Cambridge Audio Azur 840A
It's a nice bit of kit, I've got it on a 14 day trial to see if its any good. So far it is very good. Its their top of the range amp, and I dunno whether I should get the CD player to match. Just dont fancy pay £400 for a CD player.

My Dads got a Cambridge Audio cd player, not as good as the Marantz its replaced but still pretty decent. I hadn't heard of them before he got it but its pretty good.

I was playing with that that other day. I was very impressed with it. The CD player really made a difference though

i believe not. it's just the case that richer sounds is the only retailer.
I think Cambridge Audio are doing pretty well these days, the AV amps (Azur 540r etc) have got brilliant write up's considering there pretty cheap.

I was gonna get the 740A. Essentially next model down (less power/inputs etc), but they had the 840A in for exactly the same price!!
Are upsampling CD players much cop? Seem the 740C has this feature, not exactly sure if its better for it though??

Upsampling is a con and a gimick to be honest, why add information that isn't on the original source material? - you tend to end up with a sound that is artificial and over exaggerated at the top end.
All you need out of a CD player is a decent transport and decent DACS (whether these be built into the CD Player, the amp or external eg - 'Cambridge Audio DAC Magic' etc).

I was thinking that but you look at the reviews and the 740C and 840C both get Best Buys from hi fi choice. Check this guy botting it

The 2 digital inputs do sound handly like, could connect the PS3.
