Maradona being the greatest ever player, cheating aside (and thats a big thing to have to overlook!) Peles record will always make him the best IMO and I also personally believe Cruyff was a much more naturally gifted player than Maradona ever was, that first goal against England was class, but Ive seen RVN score a similar goal against Fulham... people always harp on about that goal as if its so unique, some Saudi guy scored a better one in 1994 IMO

Wasted talent IMHO, and a cheating scum who deserves everythign life has thrown at him

pele played virtually his entire career in brazil, never played in europe. so it was all at a lower standard.

maradona did it in argentina, spain and italy, he tranformed napoli from also rans into campions of italy twice and uefa cup winners. he also carried an average argentina team to the world cup in 1986 and took an even poorer team to the final in 1990, hardly wasted talent

yeah i admit it shouldnt have been allowed, but how many offences do players get away with every week on the football pitch, a player intentionally trying to injure another player deserves more critisism than maradona gets for a handball.

he didnt get sent off in the 1990 final ,no.

ok so napoli had some other good palyers, careca and alemao spring to mind, but he was the catalyst of it all for them. plus he came back from a career threatening injury when "the butcher of bilbao" nearly ripped his foot off.

Maradonna is the greatest any of us have ever seen, Pele was too long ago and it would be going against the grain of other sports if football hasn't got HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER etc over time.
Winning a world cup virtually on your own will never be topped IMO. A player truly touched by the 'hand of God' ( see what I did there?)
