when i take a photo it says card error. when you turn the camera on its comes up with the images left to take so its in the right way in the manual it does say when using a new card to format it.... what does that mean? and could it be that the memory card just isnt right for the camera?

You should go to settings and there should be the option to format the card.

There will be an option in the camera menus to Format the card.
Did you buy the card on Ebay as it sounds like what happened to me. Turned out if was a fake card.

Formatting means to clear the card of any images. If you ma, try and take them off before you format.

The card isnt "locked" is it? stops it being written to, there sometimes is a little slider on the side of the card. Pop it out and have a look.

formating doesnt mean takeing the pictures of fthe card
if means it puts the memory in the right place for that camera so it can be stored onto the card
its like sorting it into alphabeticle order basicly
nd you need to format it straight away when u get it anyways mate
hope that helps

Pretty sure it would if there was already stuff on there. Although, you are correct about it setting up a filing structure. Same with the PSP.

It sets up the card in such a way the camera can write to it, unfortunately I think the a200 limits the capacity you can use. IIRC one customer told me his 8gb compact flash was formatted to about 2gb, im not sure how true that is though.

formating in itself does tent to take up alot of space
for example the ipods
when you format them it takes at least a gig or 2
its just the way that it works
if there are images on it already it just deleates them because it is made to set up the card in sutch a way that you can write to it easily and doesnt have the programme to put already existing files in the right order
