the only things you can do really is get a mad cam and raise the compression with different pistons or machining the block/ head

tis an option, obv you will have the added displacement and it also raises the compression if using a 1.4 head

The 1.6 bottom end would be good, thought about gearbox choice? Any box that could provide mental amount of torque? or even a small diesel box if it'll fix?

put some bike carbs on it cheap and effective, and easy to do

ohwell i thought it was quite easy, get carb fuel pump, regulator set below the carbs float spring resistance, setup, forget

Nova gte cam is exactly the same as the one already fitted.
The std ecu will limit whatg mods you can do, as it wont like a long duration cam etc.
Tbh the only things on your list that will add anything is the head, and a few hp from the de-cat.
Easy option is to fit a 1600 for about £100
