Me and the girlfriend want to put our names on the coucil to get a house, maybea long shot but the only way to start getting into the housing industry. was just wondering if anyone has gone thsi way around it and if so how? Preferbly want to move to B'ham (where she lives at the moment).

Any suggestions would be grateful

You will have to go down to the local council office in the area you want and put an appliation in, when you receive your application number you will be able to bid on houses via the internet or get a booklet from the council office, the person who bids on the house with highest priority will get the house.

But be warned unless you have kids and are a single mother who is homeless you will wait years..

You could allways try federated/housing associations in your local area as the waiting lists are generaly shorter, but the rent is slightly higher than what you would pay from the council..

Why?

Have you got any savings, have you TRIED to lump together your earnings to afford somewhere to live yet?

Council housing is for vunerable people, not those who think its an easy way onto the ladder....

nope i dont have much savings tbh, but on what we both earn i think we could just scrape it depending on what goes out, rent of house/flat,. tv/elec/gas bills etc.

you would be better of saving up for a couple of years. hopefully things will have changed for the better then and you would get a better mortgage offer.

council housing can still be a pain in the arse though and i think for what you get and the area they are normally in.. expensive, would much rather rent or something...

And yes be expected to wait a very long time...

You don't need your own place, would just 'like' one..
