I've fancied getting a DSLR for a while now and I've been doing a bit of research and I seem to be leaning towards getting a Nikon. I've found some deals on the internet and the D40 can be had for £225 and the D60 is £290. Is the D60 worth the extra? It seems the only extras with it are 10.2mp instead of 6mp for the D40 and it has a VR lens (vibration reduction). Do Jessops do price match?
Any help appreciated!

VR is worth the money IMO for the little money that's in difference.

Jacobs price matched their own website for me, plus an imaginary £7 for "postage" So i got about £20 off my D60 in the end.

Not sure about Jessops though sorry.

I chose the D60 over the D40, not sure why though. *shrug*

Good shout on the Jacobs site, although I'd have to buy today to get the extra £15 off that they're offering.
They also have a good price on a sony A200 twin lens kit for £360

a lot of people on here rate the A200, obviously it's entry-level, but it seems to come well recommended with the people who've got it.

I love my D60, although it's not had much use recently. And i really wanna get a 70-200mm lens for it, looking at £450ish tho

Seems to be some conflicting replies there! I'm guessing they're all pretty similar in terms of spec and all will offer excellent photos with the right guy operating them!
I was pretty much dead set on the Nikon D60, but that twin lens A200 kit is soooo tempting...

The D60 is well worth it, the D40 doesnt have an auto focus motor built into the body so auto focuses lenses are more expensive and limited. 6mp isnt awful, but limits the amount you can crop an image. When your spending that much on an SLR, you dont want to be regretting it in the future!

I work for Jessops and we price match our own website and other retailers within a 10 mile radius.

However I do have to say that I think you should spend the money on getting the nova some action!

the D60 doesn't have a motor either, you need to buy the AF-S lenses

I wasnt aware the D60 didnt have the motor, id go for a canon 1000d in that case, same price as the D60. It also has liveview which the D60 doesnt.

The canons are better at doing almost, if not everything.

They also autofocus with all lenses.

You'll be pleased to know that I bought a cheap Canon EOS 1000d, it felt so much better to hold than the D60. Battery is charging now and it'll get it's first outing at Mallory park tomorrow
