Any one know how can i stop the engine from tapping on idle. i think its either the vavles, oil pump, lifters or pushrods but dont know much about engines, so is there any thing thats common on corsa b (98) sport 1.4 engine that may be causing it. might save a bit of time if i know whats wrong before i start fiddling with it.

any help will be much appreciated

I have used that Wynns stuff before, worked for me, but only for a couple of weeks, seemed to just 'wear' off then though!

I recently put some 15-40w High mileage oil in my 1.4 16v to try and stop tapping - biggest mistake ive ever made in my life! lol
Its started making a new level of tapping noise now! And work has been messing my pay up, so have absolutely no money, and the bank wont give me an overdraft! lol

But 5-40w is better stuff then I take it?
And JamJar - if its not too late, when you do change your tappet, could you please take a couple of pictures now and again, as I want to change mine, but not really confident enough to do it without a couple of piccies to tell me how! lol

Cheers

tried it and put castrol magnatec 10w 40 in and sounds a little better but i think the only way to completly get rid of the noise is tappet changing which is gonna be next year sometime unless i chuck a different engine in.

yeah, I put some mobil 1 10-40 in mine, and it sounds a lot better than it did, but last time that I floored it (about a week ago) with the new oil in, when I came to a stop, the oil light was flickering on!

So, driving round like a granny now! lol

Could this be the oil pump or something else do you rekon? No oil leaks and plenty of oil, and new filter!

not really sure mate. could be a dodgy sensor, low oil pressure or dodgy release valve on oil pump.

not sure if driving like a grannys gonna help if there no oil in engine but dont stop doing it just in case lol

has the tapping gone louder after you drove enthusiastically?
