exhaust manifold will make a big difference, a 20xe should see around 200BHP with mild cams an sbd type c and throttle bodies.

mine made 185 with hi torque cams(very average) a type A manifold and DTH bodies. i made mine weigh only 850kg to now i just need to get it started again.....

I'd go for the 1.6 just for the noise really However you can't really argue with the bhp per pound that the XE gives.

I've seen them being used, I know of a lad with a realiable 180bhp VTS and it runs 13 second quarter miles and is an absolute weapon on track, factor in that it handles well out of the box.

I wouldn't own one, but if you had the two cars staring you in the face and weren't biased at all you would buy the Saxo to start with wouldn't you?

If you put a decent amount of money into:

4-2-1 Manifold
Cams
Decat exhaust system
Throttle bodies/management

You're talking an easy 180+bhp. That would absolutely tank a tb'd XE. In a straight line it'll be just as quick if not quicker, and MUCH better handling. As Ollie said, that would be a weapon.

Yes but every twat in the world has a 106 or paxo

Plus 180bhp, you can get that from a smallblack corsa on tb's

The same can be said about Corsas for everone owning them

That is true, but for ease of power the VTS is better than a smallblock Corsa. And if you're talking about a 1.8, he also has to do the conversion, not on his Saxo

I know it may be easyer on a VTS/GTI. Thats why im thinking of selling my 1600 and getting one.

And yes i was talking about the 1600 engine and not the 1800
