Just wanted to ask a few questions because I'm a bit worried about my car...

I have a feeling the headgasket needs replacing or the head needs some work on it...

Recently (last week) I noticed a small white mark on the oil cap (like a smear) when checking my oil just had a look on search and some guys have said look out for this when buying a car like mine....

Sometimes on start up I have noticed that there is some blue smoke (only sometimes though other times it's fine )

Also OJC said "put it in 3rd and put your foot down" sometimes I notice that my engine management light comes on but I am guessing that is down to the EGR valve which isn't the biggest worry in the world....

If you have any advice/suggestions they would be appreciated thanks

Paper Clip Test if the EML is on?

Know any mates in Vauxhall? If so get them to put the computer on it

Sounds like the HG could be on its way out though :thumbsdownlol:

How much to replace a HG?

I hope it's not an expensive fix

The white smear I wouldn't worry about, that is probably just condensation.

If it starts using lots of water, you get no heat through heaters and there is mayo which resembles whipped cream, rather than just a smear, then your HG has likely to have gone.

If it's running badly may be it needs a nice oil change, plugs, filters etc. . .

It does seem strange it's in the sump.

Don't jump to conclusions though. Get a test done at a garage. If you go to one regular, it shouldn't cost much, if anything. They put this massive syringe looking thing in the top of the header tank with a chemical in it. If there is exhaust gasses present (Headgasket) then it'll change colour

Yes I was speaking with a mate of mine about this - it's called the sniff test apparently

Feel a bit gutted really just spent some money on some other bits for the car and I might now need it for repairs

Yeah, sniff test. Get it done. Only real way of telling. Just worrying yourself otherwise. You should see my oil cap and rocker cover. It's horrendous. I put it down to the damp weather though

Yea another mate of mine said not to worry too much as it's probably just condensation if it's only a small amount under the cap but mine is obviously more than that....

Not quite true Deano. My headgasket went without any warning at all, no sludge in oil or header tank etc it just went without any signs and onto 3cylinder and then onto 2. Had to call recovery out and been sorted at the garage now. Been told the headgasket went in 3 places

Results from earlier expection - sniff test colour went from dark blue to light green tried again for the second time and it didn't change colour

He was pretty certain that my rocker cover gasket had gone so that explains my slight oil leak!

Well im glad that it's not an expensive fix I shall be getting my de-cat, inlet and this problem fixed within the next couple of weeks
