I got a shirt fro Tesco once. And took it straight back. The quality and fit was horrendous.

I have 50 odd shirts for work. a lot of them are guide london or parkers, both are a very nice fit for me and have nice detail on the cuffs/colar

burton and river island used to do nice ones but had nothing in last year or so

topshop i refuse to go in, hate the place!

Always go for Burtons over Topman for business wear. Topman is for casual stuff that truthfully isn't going to last. Burtons is better made and more appropriate for the office. It doesn't matter a damn that Arcadia owns them both. They also own both Topshop and Miss Selfridge but Miss Selfridge is far better quality.

For day to day work, I wear Matalan roll-up sleeve shirts; I work in a boat builders so am forever ending up covered in Fibreglass or Resin. At £12, the Jeff Banks shirts from Matalan are perfect; they're hard wearing and if I get resin or Gelcoat on them, at £12 it really doesn't matter.

To wear for more formal occassions, like a meeting I have with the French Military tomorrow, I have a few from M&S, a couple of Hugo Boss and Dehaviland. I don't wear them often as there's no point ruining a £50-£100 shirt when I don't need to.

Friday's are pretty much dress down days so I'll wear smart jeans and a plain black T-shirt,

Burton Way better than Topman.

Burton and Topman are both owned by Arcadia though?

Yes. But there is a difference in clothes quality, and style.

Bugatti and Skoda are owned by VW
Yeah I work for Burton. It's a little inter-Arcadia friendly rivalry we have with Topman

I buy shirts & ties mainly from Next. Trousers I get from Asda, Next and have a really nice pair that I got from a local department store. Only problem is I didn't find out that the nicer pair are dry clean only till I wanted to wash them

Good thread, I need a load of formal stuff for a new job. Only just discovered slim fit shirts too so need to through out all the none slimfit that I look shit in.

Give tkmax a try for trousers, can get some really good deals on better quality trousers.
