Press Ctrl + A to select all, then go Select > Modify > Border and enter how many pixels of border you want. Then select the paintbrush, make it huge and whatever colour you want, and colour it in. Colour it again if you want it a bit darker.

Easiest would be
Edit - Select all (ctrl A)
Edit - stroke.

change colour to black and set the transparency and width

That's an easier way to get a solid border, but the way I do it gives it a semi-transparent bit as well You could do two strokes, one smaller than the other, but both ways work

You can record an action, which will preform a whole set of tasks at once (alt F9)

record your action and give it an F number (e.g F3). So then every time you press F3, it will automate your border task.

I think borders tidy a photo right up. With most of my photos nowadays, I tend to put my name in the bottom, it's not copyright as such, it's just so people know who took the photo kinda thing. Pisses me off when I see my photo and it's been cropped out, does anybody else see my point?
