Are they the same thing just different brands or are they each better than the other at certain tasks?

is it a case of having one or the other or would having the 2 be benificial?

If you can use photoshop just stick with that tbh

Lightroom is an organiser and would compliment Photoshop. Photoshop is better for more complex editing etc...

I have both. Lightroom is what I use day-to-day for keywording and minor editing on photos - Photoshop is literally just for editing photos but to a higher standard.
