My friend runs a small software house in Shropshire making software for asbestos logging and removal company's.

Just had someone come for a job interview as basically a very trainee programmer.

Asked him his salary range and the bloke replied £45-55k a year.

All he has done is one of them on-line courses advertised on TV, and because of the sales pitch they sold him, he thinks that's the going rate.

We don't even pay that for contractors who have been in the business for years. Our own programmers are on 33k max, but most in the 20s...

Those adverts make me laugh they really do.

I hear they also are looking at nuclear physics in 3 days course too now. Something about shortage of nucular weapons builders in Iraq??

They annoy me as well, particularly as I get people coming in to college thinking the same.
