I work at Currys Electrical, and we heard yesterday that they are reviewing every store and WILL be paying people off.

I dont know the criteria on what they will be basing their judgements on, but is their anything i can do to protect myself other than knobbing the manager?

And is there anything i can do if/when i get paid off?

Or any general advice, thanks.

Have you been there long enough to qualify for a pay-off?

I'd be surprised if any retail stores would be having to pay for getting rid of staff - unless you're up in head office/admin?

Are you sure he'd let you do that?

Any people who do less hours than you?

They're the people who'd be first to go. Seems like the kind of place to employ a few weekend staff

Retail outlets prefer part time staff, if one goes sick they only have to find cover for 19 hours not 39. My work place do it on last in first out kind of thing. Hope it all goes well tho. If your seen to be a hard worker that will be beneficial, im a manager and do everything they ask me to do like change shifts, work extra hours (for free) and generally work my arse off but it gets noted and will play in my favour in these harsh times.

Would say your fine bud

Edit: But yea, as munk3yrac3r says, it would obviously differ at some places.

Depends on the company, where im an assistant manager i can run the store when my manager is away, drive forklift truck, access detailed system reports/functions and do alot more but then again i could get raped if the store gets closed so were all in the same boat
I used to work for electrical department in BHS but they made me redundent last year paying me £2000 to leave as the dept shut down and i walked into my new job earning £5k more, i see myself as fookin lucky but im now worried for my new branch as the competition is dirty

Time to start being very very prompt and going beyond the call of duty are you a qualified first aider? If you are, that will help as they need X amount per X staff.

Im always looking at job possibilities so if i was to walk in one day and be sent home ive got 5 jobs to go for, just gives you some head start in looking for a job. Oh if you work with a bunch of dim witted dribblers that plays in your favour too! ......... inless your one then your screwed
