Thinking of hiring out a 10-20 just to see what they are like and possibly a 50mm (more likely the 50mm as its cheaper to buy if i decide i like it ) plus i imagine its a bit more useful for what i imagin i will be using it for.
just wandering if anyone has used them before? how does it all work?

Talkphotography has a good review section for stuff like this.
Did a quick search http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=53809&highlight=lensforhire

Hiring a 50 seems a waste of time - its so cheap you can buy one and sell it for the same on ebay - they're cheap and well in demand.
I've considered using them in the past, but ended up buying the lens instead
