Right...

I currently have the three sky services:

1. SKY TV (Standard Box) - with all channels including SKY Sports etc but not Movies. Price £37.50 pm.

2. Sky Phone - Free evening and weekend calls. Price £0pm.

3. SKY Broadband 2MB Base Package - Price £0 pm.

I fancy upgrading my box to the HD box on the £49 offer as my current box is over 12 months old so out of its warranty. Should it break I would need to pay SKY to come out and fix it etc. I think the charge is £60 hence I might as well upgrade to the HD box which will then be under warranty etc.

My issue is that I will be moving house in September so will be taking SKY with me. I will probably be moving into a new purpose built city centre apartment of some sort so my question is aimed at people who live in apartments etc (Cosmo?) and have had to have services installed by SKY.

1. What is the cost for SKY to install your TV service in a purpose built apartment complex? Any issues?

2. What is the costs for SKY to install a telephone line in a purpose built apartment complex if there isn't already one installed? Any activation fee?

3. Will upgrading my current box to the HD box mean I start another 12 month contract?

Gracias

My place has sky built in, I think they just have a single dish on the top and then everything is run from that. So all I had was an RF Out socket (think thats right) in the lounge, and then an aerial in so I can watch the sky channel in the other rooms. So was a case of getting a normal account from Sky and all the guy did was plug in my Sky box and set up the TV!

Only problem is it only has one RF In, as was built about 4 or 5yrs ago now, so I cant get Sky+ and I think HD as well which is a bastard.

All depends on the wiring in the apartments.

Sky wont install a dish/cables etc.. in a flat/appartment

Most apartments use a quattro LNB on a large dish on the roof, these four cables run to a multi-switch where your sky feed(s) come from, depending how old and the spec of the apartment depends how many cables run to your front room.
There maybe a possibility of multiplexing two sat feeds down one cable but you would need to sort this out with a local satellite/aerial specialist before you call out sky.
You would need something called a stacker as the two satellite feeds have the same operating frequencies.

You could still install HD, just only be able to watch/record one channel at a time if worst came to worst.

As John said, you can have Sky+ or Sky HD, but will not benefit from the 2nd tuner in the box. Pause, record and rewind will all work though.

Also, as Ash said, you can get stacker/destacker however they cost £130 plus fitting.. and that's assuming that there's any free outlets from the building's multi-switch else you'd need to add onto that system too.. Then you've got to consider that they won't work with low-quality cable between the 2 units.

Cosmo: If you can get to the building's multiswitch (probably in the riser on your floor), you could possibly fit it yourself You can get all the stuff you need from Grax in Trafford Park
