now i'm stumped
i got the check control in the bm and the control said low coolant, so i topped it back up, bleeding it etc.. properly.. now since fillign it back up i've driven about 2 miles, and i've lost alot of coolant from the fillup bottle,
now when i start up no smoke, when warmed a bit and if i rev a little white (only white) comes out exhaust i'm guessing this cause of cold weather now?? i've checked oil filler cap.. no white gunk, no white gunk inside the filler neck, checked oil level on dipstick.. no difference, and no white gunk to dipstick, and appears to be no oil in coolant bottle. so where the hell am i loosing coolant? cars a E36 328i coupe.. any one have any idea's? also it is blue/white smoke out of exhaust if gasket's gone aint it?

this happened on my bosses bmw and it turned out to be a crack in the head.the water was leaking into the exhaust manifold and just getting blown out the back.it took them weeks to find out what it was.

steve no i didnt do that, but on bm's the fan's always on as it is so thought it would fully circulate ? as you have to have the car runnig when filling up coolant in the bms

u need to have the heaters on still so that it fills the matrix, also u need to wait till the thermostat fully opens so that its fully circulating

also, leave the cap of so that any air escapes

when it starts to boil over, turn engine off, top up and replace cap

I'll leave the bleed valve open and top up again tonight when i get back and see how that goes then so keep going untill starts boiling and then turn off and fill yes? I'll try that! lets hope this is the problem

runnin the wrong power steering fluid will make the pump sound noisy, it'll also knacker the seals in the long run

think u need the BMW own brand stuff

check the carpets in the footwell to see if they are damp. it could be the heater matrix. but if the white smoke persists from the exhaust then it is likley to be the head, leaking between cooland galleries and exhaust manifold.
