Just seen on SSN that a brazilian game had 5 refs at once - basically one main ref and two linesmen as usual, and then one to the side of each goal.
IMO think its a decent idea. Means they can easily see if something is over the line or not, and can also have a better/different view of penalty claims.
Opinions?

Good idea but would be tough to implement in the lower leagues where there is a shortage of officials as it is.
Theres no need for tv replays for goal line decisions, just have it like ice hockey where they have a goal line judge behind each goal.

Platini has said that he'd like to trial having 4 linesmen. Personally I think that's a great idea!

Dont see a reason for 4 linesmen, unless you're calling the ones behind the goal linesmen?

That's because platini is a clueless cunt. Imagine the carnage when one of them puts his flag up and the other doesn't

There must be about 4 or 5 controversial decisions a season involving goal line incidents so its pretty pointless shelling out lots of money to employ another 2 officials per match. The officials get the majority of the goal line decisions correct anyway. The ones they don't get correct is a bit harsh on the team that it goes against but thats football. Maybe they could introduce the technology that allows the referee to be informed when the whole ball crosses the line. For example, an alarm that goes off in the refs pocket to indicate that the whole ball crossed the line.

Sounds simple but actually very hard to do. Addidas have been trying this out for years but not been very successful. HawkEye were also doing lots of trials and really getting somewhere but then FIFA being the corp they are (read Adidas loving) told HawkEye to not bother as they would not authorise it
Personally I think we should just allow the 4th officall to use video plays for a very specific list of things i.e. ball over the line. This would only take seconds to sort as they all already have videos screens next to them.
The next step is the likes of Pens where we have all seen what making the wrong decision can do.
