need to powr a 230v ac appliance from the 12v dc from a car bttery

will this be sufficent?

Power wise your ok, not sure if the interference from that inverter will cause you problems though. should be ok IMO

Most inverters (including the one in your link) make a modified sine wave, the one you get in your house is a true sine wave.

Pure sine wave inverters are more expensive but you can think of it that the output is "cleaner"
