Quite an interesting read
During peak hours, BBC iPlayer pumps out 12GB of data every second, and seven petabytes of data every month. It's insanely popular on Apple's iPhone -- but mostly after midnight -- and the next version of iPlayer will land this year, with some exciting new features.

Considering how many people use it I'm surprised that it's not a lot more than 12GB per second. Interesting read.

They're using content delivery networks (similar to Windows Update IIRC), so they're not running 100Gbps to one datacentre
I do remember reading about a lot of UK ISPs kicking up about their capacity issues when IPlayer launched
