Some people seem to have the wrong end of the stick, you could still read old posts, but not add a new reply.
Another forum I'm on has a thing like this, except it was set at 30 days (not long enough imo but the Admin was reet stubborn) and it wasn't that often that threads needed to be re-opened. It makes people think twice before posting, because they need to ask for the thread to be unlocked, which means that useless rubbish won't be added and a thread dug up from 5 years ago for somebody to go "lol".
