I always thought you could only get an MOT:

a) any time up to 4 weeks before renewal
b) if the vehicle has no MOT

If a car has say 2 months MOT remaining, can you not get a new one and would it only be a 12 month MOT or 14 month?

if its two months before then no the mot wont be for 14 months long

You can get the MOT when ever you want... But if you get it done 28 days before it runs out you will get the remaining time added to your next MOT so its possible to get a 13month MOT if you time it just right.
