seems harsh, i think they should be allowed in it as they won it,
in a similar situation, a team that won the FA Cup and got relegated from the prem would still be allowed in the uefa cup wouldn't they!

Not really the same situation in the example you gave - as a non-league side could win the FA Cup and still be entered in to the UEFA Cup.

A better example would be when we won the CL in 2005 yet finished 5th. We were allowed in to the qualifying stages so we had a chance to defend the title.

Its unfortunate but if they made special dispensation for one it could spiral out of control down the years.
