work have thought of an ingenious way to keep track of us all, and thats by giving us a phone with a tracker installed onto it.. now i'm not sure exactly how this would work so any ideas are helpful.

never really played with a PDA before, so im unsure whats good and whats not but its a HTC TyTN II P4550.

they say there is a tracker installed on the phone but i can see them thinking its going to be like something you see on the movies.. but im a bit dubious to wether of not they can track the phones movements or wether its just going to be a web based program that tells picks up on the phones GPS?? im just speculating as i have NO idea.

It will only be a program that reports it's GPS position over GPRS or whatever.

It is kinda like the movies though, they'll know exactly where the phone is.

Probably legal on the grounds of "If the phone is stolen we can see where it has gone". Probably noted like that on their ISO9001

in a word yes.

its simply an agps system that will realtime tell whoever where you are. you can wrap kitchen foil around the phone though and mess with your bosses head

^^^

Some of the guys at work just wrap it in tinfoil. It's not even if they are doing anything wrong it's just weird having somebody following your moves.

Can't you just disable GPS? or fuddle around with the GPS settings so they don't work?

If they are using the phones as trackers they'll obviously see if he cuts the signal.

There are various ways to do it but all involve being caught.

Leave it in a pocket or bag/briefcase. Surley the GPS needs line of sight to the sky to work :/

Doesn't the new iPhone do this too? So yeah, I'd imagine it was quite possible.

This is possible on the current iphone. Although I can only imagine it drains the battery with GPS on ALL the time?

It's been possible on phones for years, the phone he's talking about is years old now.

The iphone has just marketed this as another new feature

On that phone it'll probably drain the battery quite quick, you can get it to only turn on to get a fix every once in a while, which wouldn't have much impact.

I think what they're describing on the new iPhone is a different product; if were talking about the mobile me software. Also, the API doesn't allow software to run in the background like it would have to, or in fact, like you can on other phones.
