Just to clarify Mark, she isn't the sort of thing you'd break for parts.

There's not really anything on the car that would be worth anything.

The value would be in removing all the tat and reducing the car to a shell if it is salvageable.

The car would need to be properly shot/sand/bead/soda blasted and then have all appropriate (pre sourced and no doubt expensive) panels fitted.

The point of doing this would to be to prepare it as a Grp A shell or similar for either fast road, or track events.

Escorts are too few and far between to be done half arsed now.

MK Is can be so rusty yet rejuvinated in the right hands. They are a big investment though.

Most people will want a complete, good car or a type 49 shell if poss.

I wouldnt break it for parts to be fair, its too much work & hassle, if its going, we just want it to go.

I'm just going to try & get as many pics of everything i can & get as much info from my Gran about it as possible & pop it on ebay with it all.

No problem.

I dont think it was or will be about money to her, its the last solid thing she has left from my Grandad, she doesnt like throwing things out, all his tools are still hanging up, garage is how he left it, just not looked after so everything is pretty much wrecked.

Its a shame, but she cant keep it in there, the garage is asbestos, so its going to have to be removed by council before it falls down & causes harm to anyone.

Sounds like my nan, she hated getting rid of stuff after my grandad died..

Why not sell it to someone who is going to restore it and make sure they send photos when its done

Had another look today, needs new sills, has had some patches welded in around the car, inner wings are pretty solid, floor is pretty solid, boot floor is sold, bar where the spare wheel sits, big hole there.

Anyway, pics...

Sorry again about the quality, as said before, the garage is in a shit state, it started lashing down and the floor was wet & drips were coming down all around me, that and the fact the jack had sunk 2 inches into the ground during the photos, i decided to not spend much time under the car.

Hope this is enough to show the general condition of the car, i think it can go back on the road, but it wont be a 5minute job, someone with the time & space could make this back into a nice car.

Oh, and the engine is free, turned it by hand via bottom pulley, oil is up to the mark, petrol tank is empty, brakes are unsuprisingly siezed on, going to be fun getting it out of there!

So, after discussing it, we are thinking of putting a £500 price tag on it, as its a fairly usable shell with original parts on it.

Do you think this is reasonable?

I'd just push it out into the road tbh and hope the car fairies come for it.

The shell looks rotted to fuck.

Worth - God knows, stick it on ebay & hope someones looking for one as a project.

The floorpan is fine, it needs sills, and from what i have learnt, it needed sills when it went in there 21 years ago.

The "rot" you can see, it just flaking, aye theres a couple of holes, spare wheel well (which is very common, or so i'm told) but its a good base.

I think 500 is well under what its worth mate. take a look at resto projects on passionford, mk1 owners club and ebay. If i had £500 right now i would snap your hand off for that. I was expecting a price of up to £1k

Is there nothing similar for sale to compair to?

I wouldnt want to pay more than a couple hundred for that car, if it was a high spec one then yes but not a normal one.

Thing with Mk1s is that if you get a good shell, you can replace 90% of the rusty parts, and then pick the powerplant of your choice. You can easily turn it into a Mexico replica or a RS replica. There are less and less shells appearing, and they go for good money, especially 3dr shells

Is it not possible for you to store the car else where and restore it over time?

I'd love to find something that cool and restore it back to default knowing it was my grandad's car.

i like most peoples replies...'its not worth much because its not a mex or an RS', thats bollox. the value is the '2door' shell. it wouldnt cost much to build a non type 49 shell into a type 49 sheel and strick a mex/rs vin plates on.

that shell does look like alot of work, but its still a 2 door shell and i wouldnt b suprised if the irish dont get it tbh.

i may stick a bid in if let us know wen on ebay
