They do yes, any horse/pony can be broken at that age, doesnt mean they should tho.

Thoroughbred horses actually mature later around 6 which is why in load of cases you find that ex-racers have issues later in life. Lynn is plenty aware of this. Its not good putting that strain on a young horse, it can cause some serious issues. You can usually pick up ex-racers who are either too old to race or youngsters who arent 100% pretty cheap. I had one that pulled a tendon at 2 while racing and was never right again, now at 12 he is always slightly lame.

So its horses for courses then? or just when you think the horse is ready and stable.
I think think this thread is a bit pony tbh as there is no definite answer and anyone who answers is clutching at straw(s).

Glue

I dunno at what age my moscow was broken, but he was purchased as a race horse and had a lot of underlining problems. It's taken me a year and about £8k to get him to the stage he is now. Was told on saturday that he'd be getting put to sleep on monday, but the vets that made that decision were wrong and He's still here. Too many people just want to write off thoroughbreds

I would imagine you shouldn't ride them to young as if like any young animal, their bones are still quite soft(ish) and haven't fully developed yet so until their fully grown and mature is when they can be ridden.

I know there's a riding centre near me that specializes in special-need children which use retired horses and so on
