Ive been into DSLR photography for over a year now, and a lot of my mates see me as 'the local photo guy' and have commented on my photos saying that they are good etc etc...

Anyway....

I have been asked to be the photgrapher at my mates wedding, and im a tad new to taking daytime/life shots, as most of the shots i do are in the dark and/or car orientated.

Does anyone have any tips on doing such a thing?

I have a Canon 350D and also a tripod. Would a flashgun help?

Cheers folks

Hardest day of my life mate

Rewarding though but i wouldn't touch it unles you know your stuff, i had to use everything i had learned over the past 3 years. I don't think there was one technique i didn't use

My equipment was:

Nikon D300 w/ Battery grip
2 SB-800s
18-70mm
80-200 2.8 (used this for 80% of the day)
10.5mm fisheye
3 4gb memory cards
3 tripods

You will need to know how to use off camera flash, bounce light etc.

Be able to think quickly and set up the camera in seconds, you only get one chance with stuff like first kiss/dance.

A camera that can handle ISO well. Most places have poor light and you will be using 800+ most of the day.

Loads of other stuff too. Its very hard, harder than i thought it was going to be. Ideally you need 2 camera bodies, i just managed with one but it was tough and i reckon i could have got better shots if i had 2.

Yeah I with you there.

I always thought 1.5 - 2k for a wedding photographer was a piss take until I shot a couple of weddings last year, and all I can say is they earn every penny.

Tell me about it! I was totally drained. Started at 10am (having not slept a wink all night ) and finished at 1am I only put my camera down to eat a starter. Have to be alert constantly to get some nice candid shots. I was still taking photos whilst eating my dinner

I've got a few booked for next year, hopefully I'll be better equipped and less nervous.

You still shooting them mate?

Nah I gave it up for lent.

Seriously though, until I get some far better equipment this type of work is firmly on the back burner.
