I went to a local leisure centre recently with the girlfriend to watch her nephew swimming and i went to get something to eat out of a machine and noticed one of those height/weight/BMI/body fat machine things so thought sod it i'll have a go.

£1 later my results were:
Height 5' 9"
Weight 10st 5lb
BMI 21%
Body fat 29%

Now the top 3 results are ok but my body fat is poor! How can your BMI be perfect but body fat poor?! Im a skinny runt and have no fat at all not even a beer belly so how can that work?

Is the machine wrong or am i misunderstanding it?

Paula Radcliffe is called as obese iirc becuase her body wieght is so high due to the mass of muscle. I am sure muscle weighs like three times the weight of fat. those things are bollocks

Those electronic bf% testers are not accurate at all.
It depends on how much water you're retaining etc.

The only accurate way is to get checked with bodyfat calipers.

As above.

Bodyfat can only be measured with calipers by somone who knows hos to use them.

BMI means fuck all, im clinically obese according to the doctors but i have very little fat on me - probably about 10% bf!

Lowest bf i've ever heard of is about 7%.

5% would be dangerously low.

TBH i don't how accurate it was. But i don't know think its dangerous

I know several guys who maintain 3-5% body fat all year round, and they are as healthy as can be. However, they are the very skinny, hyperactive, fast metabolism types (ectomorphs) so they are naturally lean anyway – they don’t have to stress themselves to get to that lean – its natural for them.

got a mate who rows for britain and he's something stupid like 5% but hes 6"8+

If you're skinny you and have no muscle like tom tom you will more than likely have low body fat

if you're a decent build but not fat You will confuse the machine into thinking you're fat

Where exactly do you get a body fat test done? I'd be quite interested to know what percentage I'm rocking!

BMI is a totally useless indicator for anything.

There is no correlation between an obese BMI and say heart disease.

Waist size is a far more accurate figure, people with obese waist sizes have health problems and die.
