I'm the middle of trying to get together numbers for a Building Control officer to show him that the beams I am going to use for over a window will be enough to hold up the pitched roof. I've got virtually all the numbers but the one I need to work out is the force that will be put on the beam from my roof. I just can't remember what the formula is.

So pic below....

X is a uniform load (4.5 kN/m in my scenrio)
Y is the load placed on the outside wall
Z is the load placed on the inside wall
a is the pitch of the roof (26 Degrees in my scenario)

So what the formula to work out Y? I think its Cos something lol
