I had an office job and hated wearing 'smart' clothes. Id only end up going onto site and getting plastered in dirt.

Anyway I now get to loaf about in a boiler suit all day....so much better

The problem is that our department (IS) get to have a dress down Friday. Even though I'm part of that department, my location means that I'm no longer allowed that priviledge. To rub it in further, we're the ones that spend most of the day under the floor, or inside old servers getting shitted up and ripping decent clothes on sharp edges. I'm on my knees a lot, which isn't too bad in a pair of jeans, but not good when you are wearing suit-trousers.
Then... when the rest of my building do get the odd dress down day during the week because of team building, or training, or some other incentive... we're never included because we're not part of that department.

The reason Sky has no dress code up here is due to someone refusing to stick to it. Something along the lines where if they specify what you can and cant wear and if you arent in a public facing role then they have to provide the clothing. Not sure how right it is or not.

I loved working at Sky... it was such a relaxed atomosphere, but the place was buzzing with fresh ideas and felt like a great place to be. We even had a TV on every desk with a Sky+ box and you could have on what you wanted all the time. It was actually rather productive as after the initial "oh yeah".. you'd stick on MTV or something and work away listening to it.

Suppose this applies to school aswell. In our school (Sixth Form) we can wear anything except flip flops and shorts. ( I have no idea why this shorts rule applies, as girls still wear skirts -.-)

Was the same at mine, 1st day 99% of the lads turned up in shorts as it was boiling, so it never happened

My work is seriously shite. Its a bike shop, but the whole front of it is made of glass, so in the summer, it is a greenhouse, it gets soooo hot in there its untrue. Yet we are not allowed to wear shorts because of "health and safety", incase we drop any tools on our legs (we use screwdrivers and allen keys). We have polo shirts that are not breathable at all, and some trousers that are like wearing an oven round youre legs. Its a joke to be honest.

Simple solution! wear a skirt and a blouse, its on the allowed list!

Play those time wasting management burks at their own game.. When they come down on you hard for being distruptive take them to an inudstrial tribunal for the emotional agony they caused by moking your transvestite tendencies.

I think the problem is in most companies that have a relaxed dress code some tit always has to go and take the piss by wearing something ridiculous, the company cant just ask that one person to change what their wear so the safe bet is to make a company wide policy.

I understand that part of it.. but what really takes the piss is that it isn't company wide
We're not allowed our departments rules for dress down Friday, and we don't get included in the building's ad-hoc dress down days, so we get NONE now

I've told them I won't be doing any more work in the computer room under the floor etc whilst dressed smart.

Anyone know about claiming for "uniform"? etc... where would I stand on this?

Tell them you want a risk assessment done on working under the floor.

This will highlight any potential hazards and highlight the need for any PPE to be issued.

I work in an office, and mon-friday i have to wear a suit with tie, doesnt bother me tbh. Shirts can be either long/short sleeve, but if we have tattoos we have to cover them up which is acceptable.

tbh you should have a risk assesment done anyway, and if you are under a floor you are in a confined space so will need more ppe than usual and also a sentry to make sure you are alright whilst done down there.
in other words be a dick to them until you get what you want.

In every office I've worked in nobody has cared about my tattoos
Wouldn't bother me if I had to cover them up but assumed nobody was actually bothered these days

Why should I stop complaining though? We're not being treated equally to others now. Isn't that grounds for complaint?
