There's a few SLRs in that price range.

Nikon D40 or D60
Sony A200
Canon 1000d

All good starter cameras which will produce similar results.

It depends how far you want to go with the digital photography.
The Canon and Nikons have more choice of upgrades than the Sony, but the Sony has slightly more advanced features for the money.

Other options are to get a used camera, like the Canon 400d, but don't know much about prices for them

iv just sold my 40 for £200 delivered, its an ideal starter camera, i dont think theres much in the d40 and d60 other than pixles so shop round for the cheapest, iv never used the other 2 so cant coment.
