Going to a cruise tonight.. and want to take some photos with my Nikon D40X


Seeeing as it wont be in day light... (6pm-9pm) what settings should I use?

Im fairly new the DSLR's

I also have a tripod

Oh yh... ill be taking pics of cars... but thats abit obvious. : )

If your not using a flash bang it in aperature priority and set your aperature to the lowest F number. Also make sure your iso is around 800 or summits ( the higher the better but higher will add more nooise).

Then use your tripod. Stick the camera in self timer mode for 2 seconds, as pressing the shutter button will create camera shake and blurred pics.

A mode, low f number , lowish ISO, tripod you will be ok

Id go lower than that on a D40
id say 400 if not right down to 200

basically the same, try it at iso 800 if you want too and see how bad the noise is, if its bad drop it down

a tripod is a must at night, no point going out without one, white ballance is off on them too easilly sorted though

^ LOL. When he says the white balance is off he doesn't mean that you need to switch it on

Without even looking at the pictures im guessing they are really "orangy" because you didnt have the white balance set up to the right kind of light. If you took your photos in RAW then its easily edited.
