Just thought I should let you know in case anyone is travelling towards/through Newport soon to be warned of the new SPECS average speed cameras that have just gone up in the 50mph section. Another farce in itself

no they haven't, not the average speed ones, I live here don't forget! There is a few gatsos in the bit where they are widening the road in cardiff area, but newport have recently sprung up a contraversial 50mph limit unnecessarily all the way through newport and now they're starting to enforce it

looks pretty permenant from the signs mate, im betting the bastards in the government are gonna try force these fuckers onto all the motorways 90% of the m4 stretch, and then theyll see the likes of us along normal A-Roads as they are normally 60 which lets be honest is a lot better than 50 on a road 3 times the width

Well I read on one of these shitty governmental websites that the limit will return to 70mph after the work is complete. Since they've put the cameras up, traffic in the city between town centre and coldra/spytty areas of newport has risen... they've scrapped plans for the m4 relief road so f**k knows what genious is in charge. I've been through the cameras once whereas I would normally go through there at least once a week. The only part it really needs it is the eastbound approach to the brynglas tunnels when during rush hour - because you have traffice queueing up in the left hand lane to come off at malpas thanks to oh yeah the traffic lights that improve nothing but rather make it worse - and then theres traffic bombing past at 70+ which I agree is dangerous. But to have a constant 50mph speed limit all the way through Newport is pathetic.
When I passed there was only 2 speed cameras in Newport that I can think of! Now theres scamera vans, shitty speed boards, these specs cameras... absolute nightmare.
And theres the traffic lights they keep putting up as I've already mentioned - for example harlequin roundabout - that's going to cause an accident sooner or later - where the only traffic that is helped is that from queens hill.
I've just come back from tenerife where I saw just one set of traffic lights - and I travelled from the south to the north of the island and back on the one day - and it's just amazing how calmly everyone drives and how efficient it all is.

wish our government would look at other countries and see cameras and traffic lights make certain areas worse, less is more they were on about making the limit on the motorway top end of 90 too weren they?

lol did you know that 70mph is based on the brakes of a ford anglia? I'm no expert but I'm sure brakes have improved somewhat
