I've just got back into running again recently...

In the past I've done 10ks etc and could run for 50 mins constant no probs...

However, recently starting again, I could barely run 20 meters without getting knackered

However, I've already built myself back up to running 20-30 mins constant in a couple of weeks occasional running.

The method I use is like a 'effort based system'.

So run at the pace you would like to run continually at (so a fast pace) for say 1-2 mins. Then slow down to a walk or slow pace for 1 minute (you'll catch your breath and recover), then run at the faster pace for 1-2 mins, then the slower for 1 minute, then repeat etc...

Once you've got this sorted, either increase the 'fast pace' speed, so you're running those 1-2 mins even quicker or start running longer for the 'fast' part.

Eventually you should be able to build up to running at a 'fast pace' for a long period. Which makes it even easier if you decide later to jog at a slower pace.

- If you simply just trying running as long as you can, you'll A ) knacker yourself out B ) not achieve too much and C ) not really progress and get much better.

I generally find constantly plodding along at a slower pace, will only make your body more used to just plodding at that same, never getting any faster or easier.

i ran the edinburgh marathon last year,

times

10k 1:11: 04
half 2:43: 00
30k 4:10:50
finish 6:15:26

i finihsed rank 6494th

I am not a runner and did very little training due to other comitments at the time, furthest i ran was 10k

just start with some light joggin and build it up

as said though aim ofr under an hour

Edinburgh is quite good as first half of marathon is all down hill

not sure if the 10k is the samer though
