Hi Guys,
Im looking into buying my first jet ski.
Havnt a clue on what to start looking at?!
Wondered if anyone has any knowledge on them or what ones to go for?
Have a budget of around 1k. Have seen a few decent ones go on the bay for around that. Im not looking for anything to expensive. Just a bit of fun.
Having said that, I have seen a few nice ones go cheap but they need the engine rebuilding. Wouldnt mind giving it ago over the winter as a project or saving up and geting someone else to rebuild it.
So any idea on how much it would cost to rebuild the engine?
I have signed up to a few jet ski forums but im waiting for my account to be activated.
Thanks

Have you got everything else? Something to tow it with, trailer etc?
My mate has one & is looking to sell up for the winter. I can get info if you want?
They are GREAT fun to be fair! Just need some nice weather....

I have my eye set on one atm. But it needs a engine rebuild. If that all falls through Ill get you to sent the info over!
It comes with a trailer. Will have a towbar put on the corsa and will use that!
Hoping to get them a bit cheaper now due to the winter coming up aswel.

Remember you'll need to take another test so you can legally tow a trailer. New legislation.

Not if the trailer and jet ski weighs under 750kg IIRC.

Do you want a ski or a bike?
A bike for £1k will be a dog.

A jetski for £1k will be a dog!
It really doesnt pay to do an engine rebuild yourself! I bought a £1k Seadoo and spent just over £1000 rebuilding the engine. It really wasnt worth the hassle and never ran right anyway.
I now have a 4 stroke (previous was 2 stroke) Yamaha FX140 02' and is just amazing fun.
My advice, if you want one save up a minimum of 2k then you can buy something without loads of problems.
Mine is for sale @ £3k.

Remember jetski's cost 10-15k new so 1k will be a dog!

Entry level Waverunners are like £7k brand new.

Entry level Waverunners are like £7k brand new. True! but most are 9k upwards these days. Anyway, a big difference to 1k. Ive been there and done the 1k Ski thing and would never do it again. I spent more time fiddling with the bloody thing than riding it!
Yamaha Superjet Ski is under £6k brand new. OP- Did you want a stand up or sitdown?

We used to go on the wave riders on holiday. Also not too sure on the law regarding them over here.

It can be over that, as long as the vehicle and trailer combo is less than 3.5 tonnes.

Yamaha waverunner is an ideal entry jet bike. First one we had was an 05 fx140. Great for cruising and inflatables. Four stroke is usually known for being more reliable than two, and they need servicing every 100 hours iirc. I'm looking at getting another for next year. £3500 should see me onto an fx140 that's about 4-5yrs old with a indespension type trailer.

Do you need a license to use a jetski? Or can you just rock up to the Sea and have a blast?

If you buy a jetski for £1000 and it does turn out to be a dog then thats one strange looking dog.
