Ive posted this before, as it did it before but then worked.
Basically i boot the laptop up, log in to windows, then it loads my desktop background, and a cursor. but nothing else. No Icons, no task bar, no start menu etc. I can CTRL + ALT + DELETE press new task and type explorer.exe which does nothing. Ive booted in safe mode with works ok. I have rolled back using system restore to last sunday when it was fine, but still does the same thing. I think this has happened since windows installed an auto update the other night.

Sound slike a virus tbh. I've seen it before on some of our customers machines. If you have nothing important on the machine I'd format it but if you do I'd get into safe mode and try install some AV software to scan.

I have had this before after a windows update.
Went into Safe Mode and uninstalled the update but it didn't work.
Instead of looknig up the fault, i took the easy option and re-installed windows

Can you access regedit or Administrator Tools?. If not then it deffo sounds like a virus. For now I'd try and install AVG or Avast, Windows Defender, Spybot, Adaware and Malware Bytes.
Run full scans and see what comes up.
If nothing then I'd format and reinstall m8.
