Im starting to think about a proper Cat6/Cat5e networked cabled system at home and wondered if anyone else has made a proper job, i.e enclosure with switches etc.
If so, do you have any photos of your setup, and where have you located all your equipment?

Not got one myself but we do this kind of thing for developers at build stage.
We usually use a HellermanTyton HomeNetworkSciences cabinet for the small basic jobs which will usually house a TV distribution amplifier, Multi-room audio system hub, telephone and data outlet patch bays.
We usually install these in utility rooms, downstairs WC, understairs etc... anywhere out of the way.

I've got no pics, but as my parents place was a full refurb/barn conversion they had cat5 outlets in nearly all of the rooms. There are also two or three wireless access points hidden in the floorboards so you can get WiFi in most of the house. The problem with the WiFi is as the building is made from converted stables, some of the walls are very thick solid concrete! This seems to stop the signal getting to my bedroom.
They've got a big switch in the same room as the circuit breakers e.t.c... and all the wiring goes into the wall there. There's a server upstairs running Home Server, they just use it as NAS for backups and storage really. Got a couple of printers on the network too.

I used to in my house in Aberystywth. I had the modem/router and 8 port gigabit hub hidden in the cupboard on the landing, and then ran the cables down through the floorboards and walls, and through the attic and back down the walls. I had 2 sockets in my room (PC and gaming), then one in the other bedrooms and another one in the lounge for the media centre. Worked a treat

I've got a wireless router under the floor with cables going up to the loft then down to the rooms, that's just basic though to get ethernet to where I need it.

wow, im glad you posted this. Its certainly gave me some ideas!
The only thing is, I dont particuly like the Windows Home Media Center, but thats ok.

You could use a different front end, something like XBMC on Windows or XBMC on ubuntu
