Considering getting cams for the gte. (2.08v c20se engine) and will be the 272 duration type which is ideal for road use.

Both Newman and Kent do these.. so which one is best to go for?

And am i best to purchase a vernier pulley with it? or is this not needed.

Lastly the important bit - Can they be used with standard ECU on my engine?.. and just a case of getting it mapped in? I dont fancy having a car overfueling and problems come MOT emmisions day. but then i dont fancy buying a different ecu.

thing is luke...whatever cam you get and run on injection, you are gonna have to remap to get the maximum from it as the fuel and power map standard would be different.

the newman cam will power through to 6k at least, whereas the standard one tops off at 4500-5k, so therefore it is mapped to fuel alongside this cam.

the newman cam is the better cam as you get a more even power curve and the fuelling is better throughout the rev range, where as the kent ones have a tendancy to be crap lower down and pick up to a more pronounced peak.

The cam in my 8v was never too lumpy at idle, and the torque was always virtually instant considering the cam was relatively big, it was not all up top...which is how the kent and piper cams tend to be. But at the same time, it did pull to 6600rpm, and its just a shame the bottom end was battered and couldnt be bothered...

Cheers for help mate

Just bought the newman 272 ones anyway. so hopefully the gains will be good.

Now for head work and to locate a inlet manifold similiar to the one i had on the corsa. but dont believe one can be bought anymore. shame

ah okay then. fair dos!

yea unfortunately there isnt a performance inlet manifold for the 8v...so if you just clean up your throttle body, and get the inlet tracts on the manifold cleaned and polished too. The throttle body comes off, so if you take that off completely, you should be able to get into the plenum to clean and ploish too. all helps in the overall flow of the gases and maybe ask about putting bigger injectors in it too before getting it mapped...

exchange for part?

A.B Garage that did mine will need the car for a day or two, and they are always busy (i've gotta wait for a month to get the carbs set-up). They do a cracking job though. they are in Hawarden, North Wales, i dont know how far off it is from you...
