It would be good to see some pictures so we can tell where you're at now really.
Easiest thing to do is create a new car in your garage, then use the Java uploader because it will automatically resize them if they're over 1MB. If you use those 4 boxes on the right then it will tell you off if they're over 1MB and not upload them.

as dave said, upload a few photos so we can see where your at taking pictures wise.
as for photoshop, youtube + google will help you no end, there are thousands of videos/tutorials out there and just keep playing about with it.

Best advice, keep using it, take it with you everywhere you go and whenever you see something you find interesting get a photo.
Start playing with the settings, learning what you can change to make different effect etc. Find inspiration on websites or try and imitate other photographs you may see on here or from other websites.
And dont see it as a chore, have fun and you'll get more out of it

use Flickr for inspiration. everyone has different styles that they prefer so find something you like and make a note of the settings they used. then try to imitate what they have done.
the main bit of advice i can give is don't expect to take brilliant shot instantly. i did that and was very disheartened when everything turned out crap. so much so that i didn't get my camera out again for 3 months.

upload to your garage or somewhere like photobucket/flickr/fotki etc and then copy the image/bb code and post into here or the 'recent images thread'
